Are You Applying Your Eye Gel Correctly?

Are You Applying Your Eye Gel Correctly?

The skin around the eyes is thin and delicate, which explains why it’s the first area of your face to lose moisture and show early signs of aging.  That’s why it’s so important you give your eyes the love and attention they deserve. The most common eye treatments come in a cream or gel form. We love eye gels because they have a silky, refreshing texture that makes you feel energized and awake. They are normally used to reduce puffiness, dark circles, or fine lines by using ingredients such as vitamins, caffeine, botanicals, and antioxidants. They are also the perfect pick-me-up and are easily absorbed by the skin.

While applying eye care products may seem like a straightforward process, there are common mistakes you want to avoid. Pamper those eyes the right way by following these three steps for the best results.

How to Apply Eye Gels: Step by Step

STEP 1

Eye products should be applied with clean hands on a cleansed face, just as any other skincare goodie. You don’t want any bacteria or dirt to spread onto your precious skin. Put a pea-sized amount of product on the tip of your ring finger and apply small dots under the eye, along the orbital bone. Be careful and make sure you are not getting too close to your eyelash line, as the product can get inside your eye and irritate it.

Tips

  • Don’t use too much. A little goes a long way. The area around the eye is small, so a pea-sized amount should be enough for both eyes. Using more product won’t give you better results. You will only run out of product faster.
  • Use your ring finger as it has the gentlest touch. You don’t want to apply too much pressure to the delicate under-eye area.

  • STEP 2

Using a patting motion, gently tap the product around your orbital bone to stimulate circulation, moving from the outer corner to the inner corner of the eye.

    Tips

Tap, don’t rub! Remember the skin around the eyes is sensitive and fragile, so you shouldn’t treat it roughly. Stretching or pulling your skin will only increase the chances of getting those undesired wrinkles earlier.

    STEP 3

Repeat the tapping motion until the product is fully absorbed into the skin.

How to Maximize Your Eye Care Routine

Keep your eyes refreshed and healthy with these personal tips:

  • Get your beauty zzz’s. Pesky dark circles and puffy eyes tend to make their appearance when we don’t get enough sleep. Seven to eight hours a day should be enough to give your body and mind the daily rest it needs.
  • Drink your H2O. Staying hydrated is probably one of the easiest ways to keep your skin healthy and supple, as it helps your body to flush out toxins.
  • Pop your eye products in the fridge for an extra icy cool morning eye treat. Who doesn’t love a refreshing boost to start your day energized and awake?
  • Don’t forget to remove your makeup before hitting the sheets. Even though you’re tired, going to bed with your makeup on won’t allow the skin around your eyes to rest and breathe. Makeup can also irritate your under-eye area. The result? Early signs of aging and puffy eyes.
